Women in Philanthropy Announces Grant Recipients

The Lakeland Regional Medical Center Foundation is pleased to announce the 2007 grant recipients of funds raised by the Women in Philanthropy Giving Society. Women in Philanthropy Executive Committee Chairwoman Ihla Sloman revealed the recipients during the group's annual luncheon on November 14, 2007. A combined $39,500 has been awarded as follows:
· To build and equip one treatment room in the new LRMC Pediatric ED
· To develop a breast cancer support group and program at Lakeland Regional Cancer Center
· To fund stroke literature and educational materials for community and patient education provided by LRMC's Stroke Program
· To purchase equipment and teaching aids used for community and patient education by LRMC's Cardiac Rehab Department
· To fund speaker fees for the National Association of Social Workers training session and luncheon coordinated by LRMC Mental Health Services
· To fund DVD/video program for Children & Adolescent Therapy offered by LRMC Mental Health Services
· To fund the continuation of the Healing Arts Program Coordinator position through September 2008
This year's annual luncheon focused on stroke awareness and included a presentation by LRMC Stroke Program Director Dr. Carlos Villar. Keynote speaker Valerie Greene shared a compelling story of suffering a massive stroke at the age of 31.
The funds raised by Women in Philanthropy are designated for the purpose of improving the quality and scope of healthcare that women and children receive at LRMC and LRCC. The Executive Committee of Women in Philanthropy is comprised of Ihla Sloman, Connie Bovay, Maryann Cassell, Denise Crenshaw, Nancy Fisher, Bobbi Griffith, and Linda Rich.
