November 10, 2009
The Lakeland Regional Medical Center Foundation is pleased to announce the 2009 grant recipients of funds raised by the Women in Philanthropy Giving Society. Women in Philanthropy Executive Committee Member Linda Rich revealed the recipients during the group's annual luncheon on November 6, 2009. A combined $39,633 has been awarded as follows:
To build and equip one treatment room in the new Pediatric Emergency Department at LRMC (3rd year of 4 year commitment).
Purchase of Gaumard Noelle S575 Childbirth Simulator (mom & baby). Will be used to offer continuing education to LRMC staff.
Medela's Symphony Preemie + Cards & Education Package. Will be used at LRMC for mothers of pre-term infants to help establish and increase adequate volume of milk in order to sustain their newborns.
Art project for Child/Adolescent Psychiatric Unit at LRMC in conjunction with Florida Southern College Art Department. Students will paint wall murals.
Purchase of training program "Calmer Kids" which helps children cope in emergency and urgent care and inpatients settings. Will be used to train LRMC staff who interact with children.
Pilates Program for Female Oncology Patients at Lakeland Regional Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine Clinic. This will consist of free community education and pilates mat instruction sessions to offer oncology patients flexibility and strengthening exercises.
This year's annual luncheon focused on advanced directives and included a presentation by Vicki Oleson, a seasoned speaker, corporate consultant and an accomplished actress/comedienne. Vicki presented a look at the generations of life segmented into four pieces of a pie - sometimes the center is a bit runny, maybe your "pie" is a little overdone at times, but it's always sweet and delicious!
The funds raised by Women in Philanthropy are designated for the purpose of improving the quality and scope of healthcare that women and children receive at LRMC and LRCC. The Executive Committee of Women in Philanthropy is comprised of Ihla Sloman, Connie Bovay, Maryann Cassell, Denise Crenshaw, Nancy Fisher, Debora Misch, Linda Rich, Bonnie Rowbotham, and Geri Serot.
